PSUs Taking Candidates Through GATE 2013 Exam

After nationalised banks going for single exam formula for the recruitment, now it is time for the Public Sector Undertakings to follow the steps.
Until now, PSUs were recruiting through individual exams. Moreover, it was confusing and tiring for the candidates to appear for so many different exams for different companies. That is not going to be the case anymore.
However, there is a catch. PSUs have not started any new exam for their recruitment process. They are going to call those candidates for the interview who are going to score well in GATE 2013.
So here, onwards a good GATE score doesn’t only mean admission in IITs but it can also mean a good job offer in the Public Sector.

Who All Are Going to be Benefited?

All the students!
The hassle of appearing in different exams for different public sector companies is going to end for the students with this decision. One can concentrate on single exam for multiple opportunities this way. Based on your GATE score you are going to get the call for the interview from the companies.
Every company has its own criteria of GATE ranking for the interview call.
For students with good academic record and good GATE score, it is good news. They have multiple options in their hands for their career plan. They can go for higher education such as M.Tech in IITs and NITs or if they find public sector jobs more challenging, they can go for the same. If one does not get the desired branch for post graduation, he or she can still have options to go for service through this one examination. It will save the time of the students and will ease down their pressure to some extent.
The selection process is easier this way and students need not prepare and appear for multiple exams. The time for recruitment is also reduced.
Public sector companies are also benefited greatly with this decision, as they do not have to set up and conduct the entrance examinations for hiring employees. Their time that was previously spent in conducting exams such as setting questions, checking papers, coming up with the results and finding the right candidates for the interview, is saved. Now they just have to go through the GATE merit list and shortlist the candidates for the interview.

Are there any drawbacks for this decision?

Probably, for an average engineering student!
An average student whose academic record is between 55%-65% has to compete with high scoring students for the jobs as well. Many students with high GATE score will hold both the positions. They will get admission in IITs and NITs and will still opt for public sector job interviews as a safer option.
This will hamper the chances of average students who will have to wait until the students with higher ranks will make a decision for their career.
Also, if students take admission for post graduate course and after getting the job if they withdraw the admission, educational institutes have to go through the admission process for that seat, again.
There may be some good and some bad aspects of this decision but one thing is clear. Whether you want to go for M.Tech or for public sector jobs, GATE is now mandatory for you.

  1. All IITs and NITs advertised for Mtech registrations after the GATE result declaration but almost all PSUs advertised for registration before GATE result declaration and also the last date for registration ended before GATE result declaration. Actually the resistration process should start after GATE result declaration like IITs and NITs are doing with a valid GATE score.
